Tacotarian is a all plant based Mexican eatery. Feed your soul. Indeed, this is a great taco spot that rivals Pinches Tacos or Tacos El Gordo. The best part, it is all vegetarian. There are several location in Vegas, but I went to the one on Blue Diamond Highway and Decatur ( 5025 Blue Diamond Rd #111, Las Vegas, NV 89139 ).
The restaurant is very spacious with both indoor and outdoor seating. There are several tables and high tops to sit at. Everything is made to order on the spot. It does not take long to receive your food. They have a very large variety of things to pick from. The day I went I ordered five tacos. It also happened to be Tuesday, which was Taco Tuesday. All the 2.99 tacos were a dollar off.
The staff was super friendly and was willing to answer all my questions since it was my first time. To this end, they gave me all the details and pointed out that everything on the menu is plant based. The selection was huge so they did me the favor and suggested a few favorite tacos. I wound up taking the suggested three taco and I picked two of my own.
To demonstrate, I was suggested to eat the Carne Asada, Al Pastor, and Barbacoa. I selected the Fish taco, and Mushroom Asada. They were all great. They all come wrapped in two tortilla.
Tacotarian Tacos
For example, the Carne Asada comes with seitan (vegan meat substitute made from wheat gluten), guac\amole, pico and queso fresco.
Specifically, the Al Pastor comes with seitan, achiote (a spice from the seeds of a achiote tree), cilantro lime dressing, pineapple, pico, and salsa morita. This was very good and tasted just like the real thing. You would not know it is meat free.
Also, the Barbacoa is chili braised jackfruit, onion, cilantro. This is gluten free.
To illustrate, I always try the fish tacos no matter where I go. Fish taco had the breaded filet ( it is plant base), mango pico de gallo, slaw, mango chipotle salsa. However, out of all the tacos, this was my least favorite.
Finally, I tried the Mushroom Asada. Of course, it is made with portobello, chili powder, onions, and cilantro. To clarify, I liked mushrooms and this was my favorite along with the Al Pastor. If you like mushrooms give this a try.
Of course you can get the house sauce to go with that. They have two to pick from. The green salsa is medium heat made with tomatillo. The red salsa is made from habanera and is hot. Both tasted great and neither were to hot. Naturally, I kinda liked the green salsa over the red.
Seating inside or outside
In addition, they serve up a variety of drinks. Likewise, they have Jarritos, Mexican Coke, Jamaica Agua Fresca, Horchata, Pineapple Agua Fresca, Horchata Iced Coffee. The also offer up Margaritas with a happy hour Monday through Friday at 3pm to 6pm. They also have a couple of beers to select from.
In conclusion, Tacotarian is a great alternative if you are looking for something other than meat. Despite it is meatless, it is very good tasting and very good for the body. So if you are looking for something different or need a break from meat, give them a try. Lastly you can find more information on their Tacotarian site. Most importantly, I know I will be returning for more tacos. Be sure to remember taco Tuesday discounts.
