Wetlands Park is the oasis in Las Vegas. Even more, this is a great place to visit to get a different perspective of the valley. I always like to take visiting friends there to see how different the park is from the “Vegas” image. On account of, the nature preserve is 210 acres within the 2900 acres of the park. This spot is very similar to Springs Preserve. Located on the east side, you will find the wetlands near Sams Town on Wetlands Park Ln ( 7050 Wetlands Park Ln, Las Vegas, NV 89122 ).

Firstly, the park is open from Dawn to Dusk. The visitor center is open Tuesday through Sunday 9a – 3p. There are a half dozen extremely easy trails to walk. Moreover, most are paved with several easy dirt trails. There are several spots to sit next to the water and observe the wildlife.

Immediately, the visitor center is worth visiting. There are several things you can check out while you are in there. There is also a merchandise store. Therefore, allows you to support the wetlands. Accordingly, there is a great explanation of the wetlands park and surrounding area.

For example, if you can make it out the Big Weir Bridge, it is well worth the short trip. You get a great perspective of the wetlands and the nature that goes with it. The bridge is big and give a great view of the wash.

Unfortunately, you will also see the trash that collects. A great reminder to do your part to help keep the washing clean and clear of debris.

Another sad reminder, is how vulnerable the park is to fire. There seems to always be a fire every year for one reason or another. You come by a few spot that have been scorched. But you also see the effort the park staff put into caring for the park. Involving clean up and replanting.

You will actually see a lot of wildlife while visiting. The American Coot is found throughout the park in all the ponds. Additionally, if you look closely enough you will actually see fish in the water too. Even more, if you are lucky enough, you may come across a roadrunner.

To demonstrate, the trails are excellently marked. Next, there plenty of bench and trash cans along he way. Furthermore, out on the trail you will come across facilities.

Trail Map

In addition to the nature preserve, there is an awesome bicycle trail which does a 15 mile loop around the wash. Leaving the park heading east to Lake Las Vegas with a eastern crossover bridge at Powerline Crossing. You can see the bike map here.

In conclusion, if you are looking for something different. Most importantly, I highly recommended visiting this spot. The trails are all flat and most are paved. There are several facilities scattered throughout. Excellent signage guides you around. Also a great bike trail. Take in some of our wildlife.Lastly, you can get more information on the Wetlands Park site.
